The events of the Holocaust are a part of the history of European countries, and a significant part of the population of Europe before the war was Jewish. The remoteness of the events of the Holocaust in time creates the illusion of “antiquity” of what has happened. At the national level, a lot of things have been done in the countries of the Visegrad Group to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust. But there is no thematic museum in Belarus devoted exclusively to the Holocaust. At the same time, at the local level, NGOs, Jewish communities, school museums are doing fruitful work to popularize the memory of the Holocaust. Doing this way, the school sees the problem of bringing the aspects of Holocaust to young people. Firstly, the Holocaust topic is weakly revealed in school curriculum.
Therefore, young people are not aware of the greatest tragedy of the Jews destruction during World War II. Secondly, war veterans, juvenile prisoners of concentration camps are passing away. The lack of truthful information is filled with various, sometimes fake sources and biased reports. So schools start playing the role of scientific and exploring unit. The main task of the project is to popularize the work on keeping memory about Holocaust by means of aesthetic and spiritual education through school museums and scientific activity of students.
The project is expected to contribute personal interaction of students and united by common researching topic devoted to Holocaust that has touched each of participating countries, through demonstrating similar tragic fates of Jews in our region. Children become more knowledgeable about the Holocaust, the theme of war. Through participation in a scientific and practical conference, they express their vision of the researched problem, based on the local material. Our specific goals are to unite young people on popularization of interest to the Jewish identity in Central and Eastern Europe, to develop moral values of children, to enrich our museum collections with new exhibits and materials received during scientific and practical conference, to get experience of live communication between young representatives of different cultures and mentality but speaking about common issues.
